FRANKLIN, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has matched its best start to a season in women’s basketball school history at 2-0 after earning an 82-62 victory over Tri-State University in women’s basketball action on Saturday at Franklin College.

Junior Katie Tharp (Linton) led four players in double figures with a career-high 18 points.  Senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N. Central) added 14 points and nine rebounds, junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) pitched in with 13 points, and senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) reached double figures with 12 points and six boards.

Rose-Hulman shot 56% from the field in the game, including 58% from the field in the opening half.  The Engineers built a 20-point halftime lead with a 47-point outburst, then increased the lead to as much as 29 in the second half.

Jill Floyd was among four players in double figures.

Other key contributors to the Engineer offense included sophomore Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.) with nine points and six rebounds; senior Katie Hamstra (Indianapolis/Park Tudor) with five points on a perfect 2-2 from the field; junior Candace Procter (Southfield, Mich./Groves) with four points; and freshman Shayna Banet (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) with four points.

The 82 points by Rose-Hulman are the most since an 89-72 victory over Webster University last December at Hulbert Arena.

The 2-0 start to the season matches the best opening in school history, first achieved by the 2000-01 squad.  The Engineers will travel to Spalding University in Louisville, Ky., in search of their third consecutive win this Tuesday night.
