Rose-Hulman News Women's Basketball Season Features 19 School Records

Rebekah Forsyth set five major
school records in her career.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball season officially concluded with 19 school records, after the NCAA Division III Tournament committee failed to award an at-large bid to the Engineers on Sunday night.

Rose-Hulman compiled a 21-5 record this season to establish four school marks.  The Engineers tallied records for wins (21), most conference victories (13), the best finish in a conference season (2nd) and the longest winning streak in school history (11 games).

Other single-season team records included 463 made free throws by Rose-Hulman; 977 team rebounds; and 265 steals.  Senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) recorded the final season school record by burying 150 free throws.

The Engineers also established three single-game school records in 2006-07.  Senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N. Central) set individual records with 38 points and 14 made field goals in a victory over Marian College (Ind.), while the team set a mark with 34 made free throws in the Marian win.

Suzy Carlson added three career
records for the Engineers.
The most memorable school records may be the career marks established by Carlson and Forsyth.  Carlson recorded school records with 320 career assists, a 47.8% three-point field goal accuracy rate and an 89.0% career mark on the free-throw line.

Forsyth tallied five career school records to help lead the Engineers.  She scored 1,779 points, made 663 field goals, buried 428 free throws, grabbed 1,062 rebounds and recorded 185 steals in the record setting career.

Most importantly, the senior class of Carlson, Forsyth, Katie Hamstra (Indianapolis/Park Tudor) and Karyn Kost (Avon) tallied record of 68-45 over the last four seasons of Rose-Hulman women's basketball.

The 2007-08 women's basketball schedule will be released later this spring, when head coach Jon Prevo finalizes dates and times.  Prevo led the Engineers to a school record 21 victories in his first season as head coach this winter.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference received two bids to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Manchester earned the automatic bid to the tourney, while Transylvania received an at-large bid.
