Senior Kate Sernett Had 28 Digs and 8 Kills In

TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
The Rose-Hulman volleyball team split two matches Saturday as
they defeated Illinois College but fell to conference foe
Bluffton.
Today's win marks the
first time in school history an Engineer volleyball team has won
20 matches in a season.
In Saturday's second match
Rose-Hulman defeated Illinois College 25-14. 25-9, 25-16.
The Engineers were led by
freshman Anna Lewer, Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) who led
the team with 13 kills with an attack average of .522. She
was also tied for the team lead defensively with 11 digs.
Sophomore Karah Hickman
(Hobart, Ind.) contributed 10 kills with one block.
Junior Amanda Jevons (Henderson, Nev./ Rancho) also
chipped in with nine kills on just 11 tries for a .818 hitting
average for the match.
Sophomore Leah Pelzel
(Loveland, Ohio/ Mount Notre Dame) led the team with 36
assists. She also led the team with four aces. Junior Samantha Gregory
(Huntsville, Ala./Catholic) tied with Lewer defensively to
record 11 digs.
Senior Kate Sernett
(Crystal Lake, Ill/Marian Central Catholic) had nine digs in
the match.
The Engineers faced
conference foe Bluffton to start the day, falling 21-25, 27-29,
25-27.
Rose-Hulman again
led by Lewer with 12 kills. Hickman contributed 11 kills
of her own. Pelzel again led the team
with 36 assists in the match. She also led with two aces.
Defensively, Rose-Hulman
was led by Sernett who had 19 digs. Pelzel contributed 16 digs
while Lewer chipped in with 13. Gregory picked up 12 of
her own.
The volleyball team
returns to action next Saturday for the first round of the
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as they will
play at 2 p.m.
