TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
The Rose-Hulman volleyball team will head to Bluffton University
to compete in the six-team Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference Volleyball Tournament starting Saturday.
The fifth-seeded Fightin'
Engineers stand 20-12 overall this season and have earned a
school record for wins in a season. Rose-Hulman opens
tournament play against Defiance College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The winner of the opening
match returns to action at 7 p.m. against top seeded Bluffton
University. The championship match is set for 1 p.m. on
Sunday.
Freshman Anna Lewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran)
leads the Engineers with 316 kills and ranks second on the team
with 390 digs this season. Sophomore Karah Hickman
(Hobart) ranks second on the team with 269 kills and 74
blocks, while junior Amanda Jevons (Henderson, Nev./Rancho)
has smashed 254 kills at a team-high .315 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Leah
Pelzel (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) ranks second in the
HCAC with 1,065 assists, and junior Samantha Gregory
(Huntsville, Ala./Catholic) leads the Engineers with 392
digs.
Sophomore Morgan
Williams (Fenton, Mich./Powers Catholic) has recorded a
team-high 87 blocks along with 196 kills, and senior Kate
Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) has
contributed 111 kills and 289 digs to the squad.
Rose-Hulman will compete
in a postseason tournament for the first time since 1999 at
Bluffton this weekend. The winner of the event receives an
automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
