TERRE HAUTE,
IND. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team split a pair of
matches on Saturday, falling in the opener to HCAC opponent
Bluffton University 30-21, 16-30, 21-30, 27-30. The
Engineers would bounce back in the second match to earn the
victory over visiting Illinois College in three games 30-20,
30-24, 30-22.
In the match against Bluffton,
Rose-Hulman was led offensively by freshman Amanda Jevons (Henderson, Nev.)
who tallied 12 kills and a service ace. Junior Sarah Messmer (Cincinnati,
Ohio) also finished in double figures in kills with 10 and led the team with
three service aces.
Junior Brandi Sturgill
(Zionville, N.C.) paced the Engineers with 34 assists and led the
Rose-Hulman defensive effort with 19 digs.
In the second game of the
doubleheader, Jevons once again led the Engineer offensive with nine kills,
while sophomore Kate Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill.) provided six kills in
the winning effort.

Samantha Gregory (Huntsville, Ala.) each had a pair of service aces to lead
Rose-Hulman with Gregory leading the Engineer defense with 22 digs.
The split moved the Engineers
to 11-7 on the season and 0-3 in HCAC play. Rose-Hulman will be back in
action on Thursday, October 11, when they will face Heartland Conference foe
Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky.
