DePauw Overcomes Proud Crowd to Top Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- DePauw University overcame a spirited crowd at Hulbert Arena to defeat Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 30-16, 30-25, 30-10 in NCAA Division III volleyball action on Wednesday.

With the Student Government Association supporting a foam finger night, along with the support of the spirit club and several campus fraternities, the Engineers jumped out to an early lead in the first game.  DePauw came back to take control of the game, however, and later won the match in three.

Sophomore Sarah Messmer (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) had six kills to lead Rose-Hulman's effort.  Freshman Kate Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) added five kills.

Sophomore Brandi Sturgill (Zionville, N.C./Watauga) led the passing attack with 17 assists.  Defensively, sophomore Katie Wolber (Brookville/Franklin County) had a team-high 13 digs and Sernett added 10.

DePauw improved to 16-12 on the season with the victory.  Rose-Hulman concludes the 2006 regular season with a trip to the Centre College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
