BLUFFTON, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled Bluffton University on Friday evening before falling 30-22, 30-21, 30-27 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Sophomore Sarah Messmer (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) led the Engineer attack with 10 kills, eight digs and two service aces.

Freshman Kate Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) and junior Katie Tharp (Linton) each provided six kills.

Sophomore Brandi Sturgill (Zionville, N.C./Watauga) pitched in a team-high 26 assists for Rose-Hulman.

Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-5 in league play, while Bluffton improved to 8-17 overall and 2-2 in conference matches.  The Engineers travel to Hanover College on Wednesday.
