Nationally Ranked Mt. St. Joseph Forced to Battle to Top Engineers

Sarah Messmer paced Rose-Hulman with seven kills and 15 assists.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- No. 20 ranked Mount St. Joseph withstood a battle from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology before earning a 30-22, 30-27, 30-19 victory in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday at Hulbert Arena.

Sophomore Sarah Messmer (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) led the Engineers with seven kills and 15 digs.  Juniors Amanda Fellows (Beavercreek, Ohio) and Katie Tharp (Linton) added six kills each.  Tharp led the Engineers with three block assists.

Other key contributors to Rose-Hulman's attack included sophomore Brandi Sturgill (Zionville, N.C./Watauga) with a team-high 21 assists, sophomore Mandy Kronmiller (Fort Wayne/Carroll) with 14 digs and Fellows with 11 digs and two blocks.

Senior Katie Feldkamp paced Mount St. Joseph with 14 kills.  Sophomore Katie Playko led the Lions in assists, while senior Ashley Langenkamp paced the Lions in service aces.

Rose-Hulman dropped to 0-3 in league play and hosts Transylvania on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.  Mount St. Joseph improved to 13-6 overall and 3-0 in league games.
