TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Franklin College defeated Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 30-18, 30-16, 30-28 in the first ever Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match for the Engineers on Wednesday at the Sports and Recreation Center.

Junior Amanda Fellows (Beavercreek, Ohio) led Rose-Hulman with nine kills, while juniors Erin Rumley (Portage/ Christian) and Katie Tharp (Linton) recorded eight kills each.

Sophomore Brandi Sturgill (Zionville, N.C./Watauga) paced the Engineers with 24 assists and 12 digs, with Tharp and Fellows pitching in two blocks each.

Megan Gohlke recorded the match high with 10 kills for Franklin.  Jennifer Shoultz added 16 digs, and Lindsey Lisman of Sullivan had a team-high 16 assists for the Grizzlies, who improved to 2-0 in HCAC play.

Rose-Hulman travels to Manchester College on Saturday at 6 p.m.
