Heidelberg, DePauw Top Engineers at DePauw Invite

Freshman Kate Sernett had an evening high 10 kills in the opener against Heidelberg.

GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology fell to Heidelberg College and DePauw University in a pair of three-game matches to open play at the DePauw Invitational on Friday.

Heidelberg earned a 30-12, 30-19, 30-22 victory over the Engineers, before DePauw topped Rose-Hulman 30-14, 30-21, 30-17 in the nightcap.

Freshman Kate Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) led the Engineer offense with 10 kills against Heidelberg and eight vs. DePauw. 

Sophomore Sarah Messmer (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) added seven kills against DePauw, while junior Amanda Fellows (Beavercreek, Ohio) pitched in with seven kills vs. Heidelberg.

Sophomore Brandi Sturgill (Zionville, N.C./Watauga) provided support for the offense with 21 assists against DePauw and 18 vs. Heidelberg.

Sophomore Mandy Kronmiller (Fort Wayne/Carroll) led the defensive effort with nine digs against Heidelberg.

Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-9 on the season and returns to action against Franklin (10:30 a.m.) and Maryville of Missouri (3 p.m.) on Saturday at the DePauw Invitational.
