Volleyball Team Falls to Centre, Principia to Close Rose-Hulman Invitational Statistics for: Centre; Principia
TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology dropped a three-game decision to Centre College and a three-game match to Principia to close the Engineer Volleyball Invitational on Saturday. Centre captured a 30-21, 30-13, 30-21 victory over the Engineers, before Principia won by a score of 30-28, 30-19, 30-16. Freshman Kate Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) led the Engineers with seven kills against Centre, while juniors Erin Rumley (Portage/Christian) and Katie Tharp (Linton) had five kills each. Tharp added a pair of solo blocks, and sophomore Brandi Sturgill (Zionville, N.C./Watauga) led the passing attack with 21 assists. Against Principia, Tharp led the Engineer offense with 12 kills. Sophomore Sarah Messmer (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) added 10 kills. Sturgill again led the passing effort with 31 assists, while Sernett pitched in with four block assists and 10 digs. Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-7 on the season and returns to action at the DePauw University Invitational next weekend. Return to the Engineers' volleyball page
