TERRE
HAUTE, IND. - The Rose-Hulman men's track and field team has been
nationally ranked for the first time in more than a decade by the
U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The
Engineers are ranked No. 25 in the nation and No. 5 in the Great Lakes Region in this week's rankings from the organization.
The
USTFCCA uses a criteria that evaluates the top two performances in
each event that is conducted at the NCAA Division III Track and
Field Indoor National Championships and assigns a numerical value
based upon the quality of the mark.
Last
week, the Engineers combined for 11 top 10 finishes at the 2008
Little State Championships, led by three top five performances.
Senior Matt Repking (Effingham, Ill./Teutopolis) led the
Engineers with a second-place effort in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase, while sophomores Jonathan Rogers (Terre
Haute/North) and Travis Vanderberg (Kansas City, Mo./West)
in the pole vault and javelin throw.
The
Engineers return to action at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet on
Friday with field events starting at 5 p.m. at Cook Stadium.
Running events begin at 5:30 and admission to Rose-Hulman track and
field events is free.
