Thomas Reives - First-Team Academic
All-American |
TERRE HAUTE,
IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Thomas Reives
(Indianapolis/ Arsenal Tech) earned first-team ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-American honors in results released today
by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The honor caps a historic
career for Reives that featured three Academic All-American awards
and allowed the versatile mechanical engineering graduate to become
the first Academic All-American in two sports in school history.
Reives was one of just 15
individuals named to the College Division Men's Track and
Field/Cross Country First Team from over 600 NCAA Division II, III
and NAIA institutions across the nation. He previously earned
second team honors in football (2007) and track and field (2007)
during his college career.

Reives earned the 75th Academic
All-American award in Rose-Hulman history. |
For his efforts, Reives earned
the 75th Academic All-American in school history and helps continue
a streak of 23 consecutive years that at least one Fightin' Engineer
student-athlete has been named an Academic All-American by CoSIDA.
Reives also becomes just the
third athlete in school history to claim three Academic All-American
awards in his Rose-Hulman career. He joins Ed Huonder
(football, 1988-90) and Greg Kremer (football, 1986-88) as a
three-time honoree.
On the track this spring,
Reives was named
the HCAC Field Events Most Valuable Athlete at this year's league
championships. He claimed HCAC titles in
the triple jump (46' 6") and the long jump (22' 5 3/4") to help lead
Rose-Hulman to its first team conference title since 1989.
His
triple jump mark measured a conference record, and Reives was the top
scorer in the 2008 league meet with fourth-place efforts in the high
jump and 100-meter dash.
In the classroom, Reives
compiled a 3.98 grade point average in mechanical engineering and
was the athletic department John Logan Award Winner for the highest
grade point average among male student-athletes. He also
joined fellow Academic All-American Matt Trowbridge (soccer) as
Rose-Hulman's Ruel Fox Burns Blanket award winner as the top senior
male athlete this spring.
Senior Rachel Krasich
(Westfield) earned first-team ESPN The Magazine academic
all-district honors earlier this spring to advance to the national
ballot, and the women's national squad is scheduled for release on
Wednesday afternoon. |
