  Rose-Hulman News Track and Field Tallies Nine Top Two Finishes at Rose Twilight

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology combined for nine top two finishes to conclude its home track and field season at the Engineer Twilight Meet on Friday night at Cook Stadium. 

Winners for the Engineer men included sophomore Tyler Kreipke (Zionsville) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:35.68 and sophomore Travis Vanderberg (Kansas City, Mo./West) in the javelin throw with a toss of 167’ 5”

On the women’s side, senior Sue Nickol (Solon, Ohio/Beaumont Academy) won the 1,500-meter run (5:00.17); sophomore Katie Moorhead (Wauwatosa, Wis.) earned a javelin victory with a toss of 87’ 7”; and freshman Anastasia Tarpeh (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) claimed the 200-meter dash with the second fastest time in school history (26.21 seconds).

Senior Janel Belton (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) also enjoyed a strong meet for the Engineers.  Belton smashed her own school record in the discus throw (135' 11") and the shot put (39' 0 1/2") for finishes of second and fourth place.  Belton also tallied a hammer throw of 125' 1" for the second-best effort in Rose-Hulman women's history.

Second-place finishes for Rose-Hulman included freshman Donna Marsh (Mobile, Ala./Baker) in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 32’ 10 1/4"; Tarpeh with a time of 12.82 seconds in the 100-meter dash; and sophomore Jared Stermole (North Ridgeville, Ohio) with a shot put toss of 45’ 9 1/4".

The Engineer 4-x-100-meter relay team brought home a third place finish with a time of 43.35.  Sophomore Jerry Belton (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West), senior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/Arsenal Tech), freshman Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) and freshman Robby Alumbaugh (Mooresville) combined on the effort.

The 4-x-400-meter relay team matched the effort with a third place in the evening’s final event.  Sophomore Will Reilly (Indianapolis/North Central), Bouagnon, senior Bill Guiney (Centerville, Ohio) and Vanderberg contributed a time of 3:30.30.

The women’s 4-x-100-meter relay squad also came home in third with a time of 53.82.  Senior Katy Evert (Huntley, Ill.), Marsh, Kaminaga and Tarpeh served as the team in the event.

Individually, Burris finished third in the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.22 and junior Vince Forcellini (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) contributed a javelin throw of 158’ 4”.  Evert pitched in with a third-place finish in the women’s 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:12.91, and junior Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern University) added a third in the javelin with a toss of 84’ 8”.

Fourth place efforts were highlighted by freshman Satomi Kaminaga (Tokyo, Japan/American School) with a long jump leap of 16’ 3 1/4".  Bouagnon placed fourth in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38 seconds.  Sophomore Sabrina Liechty (Coal City/Clay City) added a fourth in the javelin with a toss of 84’ 1”.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships at Anderson University on Friday and Saturday.
