  Rose-Hulman News Strong Team Effort Results in 2nd, 6th Place Finishes at Rhodes

MEET RESULTS

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman track and field squad relied on a true team effort to place second on the men's side and sixth in women's competition at the 14-team Rhodes College Invitational on Saturday.

The complete team balance was shown by a men's team performance that included 12 top-five finishes by 12 different individuals.

Sophomore Michael Burris (Terre Haute/North) and senior Matt Repking (Effingham, Ill./ Teutopolis) led the Engineers with first place finishes.  Repking missed the school record in the 3,000 steeplechase by slight over one second with a time of 9:31.94, while Burris won the 110 high hurdles in 15.53.

Sophomore Jonathan Rogers (Terre Haute/North) brought home a second-place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 13' 5 1/4".

Third-place efforts were led by junior Mitchell Thomas (Pennville/Jay County) with the third-best 10,000 meter time in school history at 33:14.3.  Senior Tim Hachfeld (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) added a third in the discus (130' 11") and freshman David Caldwell (Plymouth) was third in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:49.40).

Junior Ian Thomas (Pennville/Jay County) paced the fourth-place finishes with the fourth best 10,000 meter time in school history at 33:15.2.  Sophomore Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg/ Southridge) sprinted the 200 meters in 22.51 seconds, and junior Kyle Winterrowd (Zionsville) placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:00.69.

Rounding out the top-five efforts with fifth-place finishes were senior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/ Arsenal Tech) in the triple jump (40' 9"); junior Vince Forcellini (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) in the hammer throw (132' 4"); and freshman Isaac Stockrahm (Scottsburg/Salem) in the pole vault (12' 5 1/2").

The meet closed with the top 4-x-400-meter relay performance in the last decade and the sixth best mark in school history.  Sophomore Will Reilly (Indianapolis/North Central), freshman Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central), senior Bill Guiney (Centerville, Ohio) and Bueltel combined for a strong second place time of 3:22.35.

Seniors Janel Belton (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) and Rachel Krasich (Westfield) highlighted a women's performance that included eight top-five finishes.

Belton came home second in the shot put with a throw of 37' 3" and added a fourth in the discus with a toss of 114' 3".  Krasich smashed her own school record by a whopping 21 seconds with a 3,000-meter steeplechase time of 11:26.45.

Also contributing heavily to the sixth-place women's effort was senior Katy Evert (Huntley, Ill.).  Her results included fourth-place finishes in the 100-meter (17:65) and 400-meter (1:12.59) hurdles events.

Sophomore Rebecca Fehribach (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) pitched in with a third-place finish in the discus throw (114' 7") and senior Sue Nickol (Solon, Ohio/Beaumont) came home fourth in the 1,500-meter run (5:02.61) to bolster the team score.

Junior Jessica Haraburda (Clinton/South Vermillion) added a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with the second best toss in school history at 117' 7".

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational next Saturday.
