  Rose-Hulman News Four Records, Six Top-Two Efforts Lead Engineers at DePauw
 

Thomas Reives helped the 4-x-200-meter relay team set a school record and added finishes of second, third and fourth on the night.

MEET RESULTS

GREENCASTLE, IND. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology track and field teams combined for four school records and six top-two finishes in a strong effort at the DePauw University Invitational on Friday night. 

The performance helped the men’s squad finished third among a field of 14 schools that included NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA schools. 

The 4-x-200-meter relay squad established a school record for the third time this season with a time of 1:32.23.  Team members for the Engineers included freshman Robby Alumbaugh (Mooresville), senior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/Tech), senior Bill Guiney (Centerville, Ohio) and sophomore Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg/Southridge)

The men’s squad relied on four second-place efforts for the overall team effort.  The distance medley relay team of sophomore Kyle Beaty (Needham/Triton Central), sophomore David Pope (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill), sophomore Eric Clark (Wooster, Ohio/Triway) and junior Stephen Boedicker (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) combined for a time of 10:33.39 for a runner-up honor. 

Other second-place finishes included Bueltel in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.66 seconds; Reives in the triple jump with a leap of 42’ 0 ¾”; and sophomore Jonathan Rogers (Terre Haute/North) in the pole vault with a leap of 13’ 5 1/4”.  

The women’s squad enjoyed a strong performance that featured three school records.  Freshman Anastasia Tarpeh (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) shattered her own school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.72 for a third-place effort.  She added a second place finish in another school record of 7.42 in the 55-meter dash. 

Senior Janel Belton (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) rounded out the school records with a shot put toss of 38’ 3 1/2". 

Other placements for the women’s squad included eighth-place efforts by sophomore Amanda Lundahl (Lake Forest, Ill.) with an 800-meter time of 2:37.46; and senior Susan Nickol (Solon, Ohio/Beaumont School) with a time of 5:40.24 in the mile run. 

The men’s performance also featured four third-place efforts.  The relay team of Bueltel, Guiney, sophomore Will Reilly (Indianapolis/North Central) and freshman Marcus Peck (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) ran a 4-x-400-meter time of 3:27.83.  Reives added a third place in the 55-hurdles in 6.68 seconds, while Reilly tacked on a third-place effort in 51.98 seconds.  Freshman Michael Hackman (Seymour) also placed third in the triple jump with a 40’ 7” leap. 

Fourth-place finishers on the men’s side included Reives in the high jump (6’2”); sophomore Michael Burris (Terre Haute/North) in the 55-meter hurdles (8.15); freshman Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) in the 400-meter dash (52.48); freshman Derek Bischak (Angola) in the 800-meter run (2:01.88); and senior Nate Bloss (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) in the triple jump (39’ 5 1/4"). 

The team score included a pair of sixth-place finishes.  Freshman Jerry Belton (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) tallied a personal best time of 23.68 in the 200-meter dash, and sophomore Travis Vanderberg (Kansas City, Mo./West) added a sixth in the 400-meter dash. 

Other scorers for the Engineer men included Peck in the 55-meter hurdles with a seventh-place effort (8.45 seconds) and junior Vince Forcellini (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) with a weight throw of 42’ 2” for eighth place. 

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Wabash College Invitational next weekend in Crawfordsville.
