Ryan Schipper cleared 16' 6" to
qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships win the IUPUI title. |
INDIANAPOLIS,
IND.
- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Ryan Schipper
(Fort Wayne/ Bishop Dwenger) earned automatic qualification into
the NCAA Division III Track and Field Outdoor National Championships
with the second-best pole vault effort in school history on
Wednesday.
Schipper
cleared the automatic qualification height of 16' 6" (5.03 meters)
to win the IUPUI Invitational. The performance ranks second on
Rose-Hulman's all-time list, behind only two-time national champion
Ryan Loftus, who cleared 16' 7 1/4" in 1998.
Schipper
will return to the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships
for the third time in his career and seeks his first All-American
honor. His previous finishes are 9th, 9th and 10th at national
meets, with the top eight earning All-American status.
In
addition to his three national championship appearances, Schipper’s
accolades include two Little State championships; three conference
titles league records in both the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference; and 2007
HCAC Field Athlete of the Meet honors.
Schipper
will compete in the men’s pole vault at 1 p.m. Central Time on May
24 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. |
