Ryan Schipper - Pole Vault and Triple Jump Winner

FINAL RESULTS

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -  The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology track and field teams combined for seven victories, two school records and 17 top-two performances at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet on Friday.

Freshman Sarita Stephney (Houston, Texas/Hastings) led the women's effort that included 11 top-two finishes and two school records with a pair of first-place performances.  Stephney won the 100-meter dash in 13.21 seconds and the 200 in a time of 26.85.

Junior Janel Belton (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) added a victory in the discus throw with an effort of 117' 3".

Senior Mandy Hecker (Georgetown/ North Harrison) smashed her own mark in the 800-meter run to lead a pair of school record performances.  Hecker ran a time of 2:18.99 to shatter her own record by over five seconds.

Senior Kathleen Stynes (Okemos, Mich.) added a school record in the pole vault with a leap of 9' 0 1/4".  She also placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 31' 5 1/4".

Other runner-up performances for the women in running events included junior Alissa Bishel (Chesterton) in the 400-meter run (1:04.31); freshman Melissa Rogers (Crawfordsville/ Southmont) with a time of 4:54.47 in the 1,500-meters; junior Katy Evert (Huntley, Ill.) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.59); and the 4-x-400-meter relay team (4:21.63).

Second-place finishes for the women in field events included Belton in the shot put (37' 6 3/4") and freshman Rebecca Fehribach (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) in the discus (107' 8").

On the men's side, senior Ryan Schipper (Fort Wayne/Bishop Dwenger) and senior B.J. Esarey (Defiance, Ohio) led a performance that included four first-place finishes.

Schipper won the pole vault with an NCAA provisional leap of 15' 6 1/2" and added a triple jump leap of 42' 11 3/4" for a second win.

Esarey cruised to victory in the javelin throw with the fourth-best effort in school history, a toss of 179' 1".

The Engineer 4-x-100-meter relay team added the final victory with a time of 43.87 seconds.  Freshman Michael Burris (Terre Haute/North), junior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/Arsenal Tech), junior Bill Guiney (Centreville, Ohio) and freshman Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg/Southridge) combined for the win.

Runner-ups for the Engineers included Reives in the high jump (6' 4"), who cleared the winning height but lost on fewest number of misses; and sophomore Vince Forcellini (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) with a javelin throw of 147' 9". 

Bueltel added a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.70) and a fourth in the javelin (140' 2").  Other fourth-place finishes included the 4-x-400-meter relay team (3:25.37); freshman Jared Stermole (North Ridgeville, Ohio) with a shot put throw of 43' 10 3/4"; and junior Nate Bloss (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) with a triple jump of 38' 2 3/4".

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the 2007 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships on Saturday April 28 at Bluffton University.
