TERRE HAUTE, IND. -  The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s and women’s track and field teams celebrated Senior Day with a handful of school record performances, an eclipsed NCAA provisional mark, and a first-place finish on the men’s side in the final home meet of the indoor track and field season.

The men captured the meet with a winning total of 176 team points, defeating Marian (129), Franklin (111), Millikin (89), Hanover (27),  and Sewanee (9), finishing the season with an overall record of 18-2 in scored meets.  The men’s meet was highlighted by junior high jumper Thomas Reives (Indianapolis, Ind.) who cleared an NCAA provisional mark of 6’ 7 ½” to capture the high jump title.  The mark moves Reives into the top 12 in Division III this season.

The Rose-Hulman’s 4-x-200-meter relay team, consisting of freshmen Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg, Ind.), Travis Vandeburg (Kansas City, Mo.), William Reilly (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Bill Guiney (Centerville, Ohio), added a strong school record performance in 1:33.84.

Mandy Hecker won three events in a strong team performance on Senior Day.

Other top efforts for the men included a victory in the 55-meter hurdles by freshman Michael Burris (Terre Haute, Ind.) in a time of 8.02 seconds, a win by the Rose-Hulman 4-x-400-meter relay in a time of 3:32.40, senior Ryan Schipper (Fort Wayne, Ind.) with top honors in the pole vault with a vault of 15’ 1”, and a sweep in the weight throw by senior Paul Ceravolo (Warren, Mich.), sophomore Vince Forcellini (Cincinnati, Ohio), and freshman Jared Stermole (North Ridgeville, Ohio) with tosses of 40’ 6”, 39’ 10 ½”, and 39’ 6 ½”, respectively.

The Rose-Hulman women finished second of six teams with a point total of 132.5, being defeated by only meet winner Marian College who finished with a total of 169 points.  The Engineer women completed the indoor season with a 14-5 in scored meets.

Four Rose-Hulman women’s school records fell in the meet, including a toss of 38’ 11 ½” by junior Janel Belton (Chesterfield, Mo.) in the shot put, eclipsing the previous mark of 37’ 6 ¾” set by Maggie Lowry in 2001.

Other school record performances came from junior Katy Evert (Huntley, Ill.) with a time of 9.62 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, the 4-x-400-meter relay team consisting of freshmen Amanda Lundahl (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Sarita Stephney (Houston, Texas), Evert, and senior Mandy Hecker (Georgetown, Ind.) posting a time of 4:22.19.  Senior Kathleen Stynes (Okemos, Mich.) also broke her own pole vault record set earlier this year with a vault of 8’ 8 ¼”, better the previous mark of 8’ 6”.

Other event winners included Stephney capturing both the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 7.60 seconds and 27.61 seconds, Hecker with wins in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:28.07 and the mile run with a time 5:29.12, and junior Rachel Krasich (Westfield, Ind.) winning the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:49.62.
