GRANVILLE, OHIO -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's track and field teams each earned first-place honors at the five-team Denison University Invitational on Saturday.

The women's squad tallied 102 points with 11 members traveling to the meet, narrowly topping the 99-point effort from Washington & Jefferson.  The men also scored 102 points to outdistance Kenyon (85) and Wittenberg (84) to win the meet.

On the women's side, the Engineers captured three first-place honors and five runner-up spots.  Senior Mandy Hecker (Georgetown/N. Harrison) led the effort with victories in the mile run (5:29.07) and the 800-meter run (2:29.15).  Junior Janel Belton (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway West) added a victory in the shot put with a toss of 37' 4 3/4".

Runner-up efforts included freshman Sarita Stephney (Houston, Texas/Hastings) with a second in the 55-meter dash in 7.63 seconds; freshman Melissa Rogers (Crawfordsville/Southmont) in the mile run (5:38.42); freshman Amanda Lundahl (Lake Forest, Ill.) in the 400-meter dash (1:05.95); junior Rachel Krasich (Westfield) in the 3,000-meter run (11:05.26); and senior Kathleen Stynes (Okemos, Mich.) in the high jump (4' 10").

Thomas Reives leaped 6' 6" to win the high jump.

A number of strong efforts held bolster the team score.  Stephney came home third in the 200-meter dash (27.84), junior Katy Evert (Huntley, Ill.) ran third in the 400-meters (1:06.19) and senior Kathleen Stynes (Okemos, Mich.) set a school record in the pole vault at 8' 6".

On the men's side, Rose-Hulman tallied two victories and an impressive 1-2-3 sweep in the pole vault.  Junior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/ Arsenal Tech) narrowly missed an NCAA Division III provisional qualification with a high jump leap of 6' 6" to earn the first victory.

In the pole vault, senior Ryan Schipper (Fort Wayne/Dwenger) cleared 15' 0" to outdistance the field.  Freshman Jonathan Rogers (Terre Haute/North) added a personal best of 13' 6" for second place and sophomore Bob Warden (Terre Haute/North) came home third at 13' 0".

Other runner-up finishes included freshman Michael Burris (Terre Haute/North) in the 55-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 8.11 seconds, and senior Paul Ceravolo (Warren, Mich./Mott) with a shot put toss of 43' 6 3/4".

Third-place honorees included sophomore Stephen Boedicker (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) in the 3,000-meter run (9:20.69); freshman Travis Vanderberg (Kansas City, Mo./West) in the 400-meter dash (52.94); and freshman Jared Stermole (North Ridgeville, Ohio) in the shot put (42' 2 1/2").

Rose-Hulman returns to action with selected individuals competing at the DePauw Invitational on Feb. 10 in Greencastle.
