TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute
of Technology men's and women's track and field teams captured
second and fourth place honors of seven teams with
eight event wins and two school record performances in the Rose-Hulman
Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The men's track and field team
took top honors in four individual events and one relay, highlighted
by an NCAA Provisional mark by senior Ryan Schipper (Fort Wayne,
Ind.) in the pole vault at a height of 15' 7 1/4". The
4-x-200-meter relay team of freshmen Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg,
Ind.) and Travis Vandeburg (Kansas City, Mo.), and
juniors Bill Guiney (Centerville, Ohio) and Trey Buck
(Austin, Tex.) finished within eight hundredths of a second of
last week record setting performance to win the event at 1:34.77.
Also with
top performances, freshman Kyle Beaty (Needham, Ind.)
finished first place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:10.53;
junior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis, Ind.) jumped a height of
6' 3 1/2" to win the high jump; and sophomore Vince Forcellini
(Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior Paul Ceravolo (Warren, Mich.)
swept the top two spots in the weight throw with distances of 44'
0 1/2" and 41' 8 1/2", respectively.

Freshman
Calvin Bueltel (Huntingburg, Ind.) finished second in the
200-meter dash with a season best effort of 23.38 seconds, and William
Reilly (Indianapolis, Ind.) also ran a season best time of 52.45
in the 400-meter dash to take third place. Freshman Michael
Burris (Terre Haute, Ind.) took a second-place in the 55-meter
hurdles with a time of 8.15; freshman Jonathan Rogers (Terre
Haute, Ind.) jumped a 13' 4 1/2" in the pole vault to tie for
second place; and junior Nate Bloss (Eau Claire, Wis.) jumped
a third-place effort in the triple jump at 38' 6 3/4".
On the women's side, freshman Sarita
Stephney (Houston, Tex.) broke her own school record to win the 55-meter
dash with a time of 7.53 seconds, and also claimed top honors in the
200-meter dash with a season best time of 27.38 seconds.
Also with a first-place finish, junior Rachel Krasich
(Westfield, Ind.) came within a half of a second of her own
school record in the 3,000 meter run with a time
of 10:45.60.
Senior
Kathleen Stynes (Okemos, Mich.) set a new school record in the
women's pole vault at a height of 8' 2 1/2". Senior Mandy Hecker (Georgetown, Ind.)
took second place in the one-mile run with a time of 5:23.11, a mere
three tenths of a second from her own record and the second best
time of her career. Sophomore Jessica Haraburda (Clinton,
Ind.) finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 36'
1 1/4".
The Engineers return to action next Saturday as
they as they travel to Granville, Ohio for the Denison "Big Red"
Meet beginning at noon.
