TERRE
HAUTE, IND. -- The NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National
Championships were declared a success by those involved in the meet,
held Friday and Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Sports and Recreation Center.
The event
featured 400 athletes and more than 200 coaches from 110 NCAA
Division III institutions. The truly national championship
featured athletes from destinations such as Maine, California,
Mississippi and Texas.
Nearly
200 Rose-Hulman student and staff members volunteered their time to
ensure a successful event. Groups working the event included
the Engineer track and field teams, sports and recreation center
student and professional staff members, along with volunteers in
athletic training and sports information.
Josh
Payne, head coach of Hanover College and Chairman of the NCAA
Division III Track and Field Committee, told the Tribune-Star that
Rose-Hulman has been "wonderful. They did a great job with
preparations. Everyone was very hospitable, the whole
community."
Williams
head coach Ralph White added, "We want to thank the administration
and facilities of Rose-Hulman for a great job throughout the
weekend. Coach Larry Cole and the entire staff hosted a
first-class event in a first-class facility."
Rose-Hulman also received significant support from the Terre Haute
Convention and Visitors Bureau, through the help of executive
director David Patterson. The NCAA also provided a marketing
budget that allowed for a paid advertising campaign in the local
media at no cost to the institution.
