Rose-Hulman News Three Rose-Hulman Track and Field Student-Athletes
Named Academic All-District

Thomas Reives -- first-team academic all-district

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -  Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed three members of its track and field team on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District squad, in results released on Monday.

Junior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/ Arsenal Tech) captured first-team academic all-district honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America survey, while senior Kathleen Stynes (Okemos, Mich.) and junior Rachel Krasich (Westfield) were second-team honorees.

Reives has earned conference championships in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, while finishing 13th nationally in the NCAA Division III high jump during the indoor regular season.  His career-best high jump effort of 6' 7 1/2" missed qualifying for the indoor nationals by less than 1/2 inch.

The mechanical engineering major earned the high jump title in the SCAC in 2006 and the triple jump championship in the HCAC in 2007.  He also holds the indoor school record in the 60-meter dash (7.20 seconds) and ranks third all-time in the high jump both indoors and outdoors.

Rachel Krasich -- 2nd-team academic all-district

Krasich holds four school records in the Engineer track and field record book and placed third in the HCAC in cross country last fall.  She holds outdoor school records in the 3,000-meter run and 3,000-steeplechase, along with indoor marks in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs.  The chemistry and biochemistry and molecular biology double major also earned the top women's conference finish in school history in 2006.

Stynes earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors in soccer last fall and holds Engineer school records in the pole vault and high jump.  Her track and field efforts include a 2007 HCAC championship in the pole vault, along with placements of fifth in the league in high jump and sixth in triple jump.  The mechanical engineering major was also chosen one of three winners of the Sam Hulbert Award for team leadership among all Rose-Hulman senior student-athletes.

Reives will advance to the national ballot, with the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team set for release late in the day on Monday June 25.
