Emily Hakeman has been named head womens soccer coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology, effective July 1.
Hakeman has spent the previous three seasons as
assistant coach for both the men's and women's squads at
Rose-Hulman.
The Engineers have compiled a 41-12-3 women's
soccer record since Hakeman joined the team's coaching staff
prior to the 2005 season.
"I think Emily has earned
this opportunity due to her work with Brad and the success of the
program. I am excited about her taking over the women's
program, and we look to continue our recent success for years to
come," said Rose-Hulman athletic director Jeff Jenkins.
Rose-Hulman won its first Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference championship last fall and made its first
appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The
Engineers defeated Transylvania University 1-0 in the HCAC title
game at Jim Rendel Field, before falling 1-0 to Denison
University to cap a historic 19-3 season.
"I am thrilled to have the
opportunity to build on the tradition of excellence that Brad
(Hauter) has established throughout his career here. Rose-Hulman is
a great institution, and it is a privilege and an honor to be named
the next head women's soccer coach. We have a great group of players
returning as well as a solid incoming freshman class, which makes me
excited to get started," said Hakeman.
Individually, the Fightin' Engineers placed 10
players on the all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference team
in 2007, including league Player of the Year Jennifer Gordon.
Prior to her Rose-Hulman career, Hakeman played
for four seasons at DePauw University from 2000-03. She
earned a pair of all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
honors and was a member of two NCAA Division III Tournament
teams.
In addition, Hakeman claimed all-Great Lakes Region accolades
and was team captain for the 2003 squad that reached the NCAA
Division III Semifinals.
Off the field, Hakeman served as the vice chairman and soccer
representative to DePauw’s NCAA Student Athletic Advisory
Committee. She also earned academic all-league recognition
before graduating in English Writing and Sociology in 2004.
