Matthew Cole enters his second year
as head women's cross country coach and his fourth season with the track and
field coaching staff this fall.
The women’s cross
country team recorded a historic 2007 effort in Cole’s first season as head
coach. The Engineers placed third overall in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference with an effort that featured all-league accolades for Rachel Krasich
and Melissa Rogers.
Krasich also became
the first Engineer female student-athlete to qualify for an NCAA Division III
National Championship event with her 11th place performance at the Great Lakes
Regional on Nov. 10. She competed in the NCAA Division III National
Championships at St. Olaf College in mid-November and placed 138th of 280
runners.
For the track and
field team, Cole specializes in hurdles and sprint events. Cole tutored 2007
HCAC hurdles champions Michael Burris and Katy Evert.
Cole also works as
the team’s video coordinator, Finishlynx Timing System Operator and added
responsibilities as assistant director for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track
and Field National Championships at Rose-Hulman in 2007.
During his running
career at Mount Union College, Cole was a four-time Ohio Athletic Conference
champion in the high hurdles. He earned two NCAA Division III National
Qualifications and ranked fourth nationally during the 2005 season. Cole holds
the Mount Union school record in the 55-meter hurdles.
Cole completed his
bachelor’s degree in media computing and sports management at Mount Union in
2005. He is married to Rose-Hulman’s assistant athletic trainer Kristen.
