Brian Shearer led the softball team to its first conference regular season championship last spring and has raised three league title banners to the Rose-Hulman Softball Field since his arrival six years ago.

Shearer led the 2004 and 2005 squads to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Eastern Division titles prior to earning the outright Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference league title in 2008.

The 2008 squad set school records for victories (25) and winning percentage (.676) to nearly double its win total from an injury plagued 2007 campaign.

Shearer led the Engineers to an improvement of 19 victories in 2004 and the SCAC Eastern Division crown. In 2005, the team finished 11-1 in SCAC East play on their way to back-to-back division titles. Rose-Hulman had a record of 15-5 in SCAC Eastern Division play over its back-to-back 2004 and 2005 championship seasons, including the team’s first regional ranking in school history.

During Shearer's tenure, several players have earned SCAC and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recognition for their efforts on the diamond.  Twernty-one players have earned all-conference honors in the last five years, highlighted by five award winners and Pitcher of the Year Jordan Goslee last spring.  The NFCA has awarded seven all-region honors to Rose-Hulman players, including the first two-time honoree in Ashley Montgomery.

Shearer also serves as an assistant facility director and the college's coordinator of human performance in the Rose-Hulman Sports and Recreation Center.
