TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology relied on a balanced effort to defeat Franklin
College 10-0 and 11-0 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference softball twinbill on Saturday at the Engineer Field.
Senior Katie Maggard (Floyds Knobs/ Floyd
Central) and sophomore Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.)
provided the pitching strength with a pair of shutouts in the
circle.
Maggard improved to 6-2 with a four-hitter that
featured two walks and two strikeouts. Goslee stands 8-2
on the season and allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts.
Offensively, Rose-Hulman reached double figures
in runs and hits in each game. Senior Ashley Montgomery
(Plainfield) made a return to the lineup with two hits, two
runs scored and one RBI in each game. She slapped triples
and singles during each of the two games to offer a spark.
In the nightcap, each of Rose-Hulman's top five
hitters in the order had multiple hit games. Sophomore
Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville, Ky./Eastern) had two
singles and two runs scored; sophomore Kristin Greer
(Batavia, Ohio) added a double, single, two runs and two
RBIs; senior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield)
contributed two singles, two RBIs and two runs; and Goslee
blasted a three-run home run and scored twice.
In the opener, Greer tallied three RBIs and
senior Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin County) added two
hits and two runs scored to propel the Engineers.
Sophomore Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) scored twice,
while freshman Kayla Yano (Ontario, Ore.) and Maggard had
one hit and one RBI.
Rose-Hulman improved to 18-8 on the season and
8-2 in HCAC play with the sweep. Franklin dropped to 3-23
and 1-9 in league games. The Engineers host Anderson in a
key league doubleheader on Saturday at 1 at the Rose-Hulman
Softball Field.
