TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology sophomore Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.)
established a new school record with 15 strikeouts to lead the
Engineers in a softball doubleheader split against Defiance
College on Sunday.
Goslee tossed a complete three-hitter with just
one walk and 15 strikeouts to help lead the Engineers to a 4-0
win in the nightcap. Defiance scored three runs in the
seventh inning to capture an 8-6 win in the opener.
Goslee recorded her fourth double figure
strikeout game this season and snapped her own previous mark of
13 strikeouts set twice earlier this season. In two
appearances this weekend, Goslee walked one and struck out 28 in
a pair of shutouts.
Offensively, Rose-Hulman scored one run in the
first and two in the second to claim the victory. Freshman
Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) slapped three singles and had
one RBI to pace the attack.
Sophomore Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville,
Ky./Eastern) added two hits and scored three runs, and
sophomore Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio) added two hits
and one RBI. Senior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton,
Ohio/Fairfield) also contributed two RBIs.
In the opener, Rose-Hulman scored six times in
the first inning to claim a 6-0 advantage, but Defiance
methodically chipped away at the margin to earn the victory.
Bernthold had two hits and scored one run and
senior Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin County) added a
two-run single to spark the rally. Sophomore Angela
Starner (Somerset, Ohio/Sheridan) provided the key hit with
a two-run blast over the center field wall for her first career
home run.
Rose-Hulman stands 15-7 overall and 6-2 in
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Defiance
has a 9-10 mark and a 1-1 league record. The Engineers
host Anderson University in a twinbill on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
at the Rose-Hulman Softball Field.
