N. MANCHESTER, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology stands 5-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference after splitting a doubleheader against Manchester
College in softball action on Saturday.
In the opener, Rose-Hulman scored once in the
sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead, but Manchester responded with
single scores in the sixth and eighth innings to win 3-2.
Freshman Kayla Yano (Ontario, Ore.),
sophomore Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.) and sophomore
Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) paced the Engineer
offense with two singles each.
Goslee scored twice and senior Katie Frey
(Cedar Grove/Franklin County) pitched in with both RBIs in
the opener.
In the circle, freshman C.J. Weist
(Hazelton/Princeton) scattered 10 hits and allowed just two
earned runs with five strikeouts in a complete game effort.
Goslee tossed a complete game shutout and tied
her own school record with 13 strikeouts in the Engineer 8-0
nightcap victory. She improved to 5-2 on the season in the
five-hitter that featured her second 13 strikeout game of the
year.
Goslee also paced the offense with three hits and
two runs scored, and freshman Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville)
slapped three singles with four RBIs. Sophomore
Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio) also contributed two hits and
two runs scored to the attack.
Rose-Hulman stands 14-6 overall and 5-1 in league
play, while Manchester holds a 4-10 overall mark and is 1-1 in
conference play. The Engineers host Defiance College on
Saturday at 2 p.m. in a twinbill at the Rose-Hulman Softball
Field.
