  Rose-Hulman News Rose-Hulman Sweeps Bluffton, Improves to 4-0 in HCAC
 

Katie Yiznitsky blasted a home run in the nightcap to help the Engineers secure a doubleheader sweep.

BLUFFTON, OHIO -- The Rose-Hulman softball team moved to 4-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 6-2 and 6-1 doubleheader sweep over Bluffton University on Saturday.

With the sweep, Rose-Hulman improved to 12-2 on the season and continued its best start to a campaign in school history.

Senior Katie Maggard (Floyds Knobs/Floyd Central) tossed the complete game in the opener to help Rose-Hulman start the day with a 6-2 victory.

Maggard allowed just three hits and recorded four strikeouts to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Offensively, freshman Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) slapped two singles and had three RBIs to lead the Engineers.

Senior Ashley Montgomery (Plainfield) added two singles and scored twice, sophomore Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville, Ky./Eastern) contributed two singles and sophomore Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) had two hits and scored once for the victors.

The Engineers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, then added two runs in the fifth and a pair in the sixth to secure the win.

In game two, sophomore Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.) also provided a complete game victory in the circle.  Goslee matched Maggard with a three-hitter that featured four strikeouts and just one earned run allowed.

Offensively, senior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) blasted a home run, scored twice and drove home two runs for the Engineers.

Other key contributors included Thomas and Goslee with two singles and one run each; sophomore Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio) with two hits, one run and one RBI; and Montgomery with a triple and one RBI.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with a twinbill against St. Mary's College on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Engineer Softball Field.
