TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team improved to 8-2 on the season with a 2-1 and 3-1 doubleheader sweep over Blackburn College that featured a pair of history making events.

Senior Ashley Montgomery (Plainfield) tied the Engineer career record for hits with 121 with a pair of singles in the opener.  She tied the mark previously set by 2007 graduate Amy Viles.

Sophomore Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.) also snapped her own school record with a 13 strikeout performance in the nightcap.

The Engineers captured a 3-1 victory in the opener with a solid all-around team effort.  Senior Katie Maggard (Floyds Knobs/Floyd Central) picked up the complete game victory in the circle with a four-hitter that featured no earned runs allowed and three strikeouts.

Offensively, Montgomery slapped the two singles and had one RBI for the Engineers.  Senior Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin County) and freshman Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) also had two singles and scored once each for Rose-Hulman.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman scored one run in the first and Blackburn knotted one in the sixth to force extra innings.  In the international tiebreak eighth inning, sophomore Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio) started the frame on second and scored on a game winning single down the left field line by Lutz.

Rose-Hulman improves to 8-2 on the season and returns to action at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Transylvania University on Saturday.  Blackburn dropped to 3-2 on the season.
