TUCSON, ARIZ. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team finished its annual Spring Trip with a 6-2 record after sweeping Texas Lutheran and St. John Fisher on Friday afternoon.

The Engineers claimed a 6-1 victory over Texas Lutheran to open the final day of competition, then relied on a solid defensive effort in a 2-0 shutout victory over St. John Fisher.

Senior Ashley Montgomery (Plainfield) led the Engineer offense with three hits in the Texas Lutheran win, including a double and one run scored.

Sophomore Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) added a double and scored one run, while senior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) added two singles.

In the circle, freshman C.J. Weist (Hazelton/Princeton) tossed the complete game and surrendered just one hit in the win.  Weist struck out nine and pitched around three walks to earn the victory.

In the nightcap, senior Katie Maggard (Floyds Knobs/Floyd Central) tossed a complete game shutout to claim another win.  Maggard allowed five hits and just one walk with five strikeouts in the effort.

Offensively, sophomore Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville, Ky./Eastern) slapped four singles and scored one run to lead the Engineers.  Yiznitsky contributed a pair of singles in the contest.

Rose-Hulman stands 6-2 overall this season and returns to action on March 8 with a doubleheader at Greenville College.  The team will open its home schedule on March 16 against Blackburn College.
