TUCSON, ARIZ. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team stands 4-2 on the season after compiling a 2-2 record on Tuesday and Thursday.

The Engineers dropped a 12-3 decision to Ohio Northern University in Tuesday's opener.  In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman rebounded for a 8-4 victory over John Carroll University.

Against Ohio Northern, senior Ashley Montgomery (Plainfield) slapped a pair of songles to lead the offensive effort.  Sophomore Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio) added a double, one run scored and one RBI.

The John Carroll victory featured four runs in the first inning and four more in the sixth.  Sophomore Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.), senior Katie Maggard (Floyds Knobs/Floyd Central) and senior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton, Ohio) had two hits each for the Engineers.  In the circle, Maggard and freshman Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) combined for the victory.

On Thursday, the Engineers dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to another Ohio Athletic Conference school in Capital University.  Rose-Hulman rounded out Thursday action with a 3-2, eight-inning victory over John Carroll.

Rose-Hulman was held to just three hits against Capital, with Lutz leading the offensive performance with a pair of singles.  Maggard tossed the complete game in the circle, allowing just one run and six hits in the narrow loss.

The Engineers took advantage of an RBI single by Yiznitsky to score sophomore Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.) with the winning run in the eighth frame of the 3-2 victory over John Carroll.

Goslee picked up the win in an eight-inning complete game in the circle by allowing just one earned run.  Her 11 strikeouts in the effort rank second in school history, behind her own school record of 12 set last season against Bluffton.

Rose-Hulman concludes its trip to Arizona with games against Texas Lutheran and St. John Fisher on Friday.
