TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
The College of Mount St. Joseph advanced to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference Softball Tournament championship game with a 7-4 victory over
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday at the Engineer Softball Field.
Ashleigh Stallkamp led the
Mount St. Joseph offense with a three-run home run and two runs scored.
Casey Brookbank added a pair of hits, including an RBI single in the sixth
inning that provided a key insurance run.
Katie Lawrence earned the
pitching victory with 4 2/3 innings of work and two earned runs allowed.
Lawrence scattered six hits with one walk and one strikeout, before Katie Cohill
pitched 2.1 innings to earn her fourth save of the season.
For Rose-Hulman, senior
Ashley Montgomery recorded three hits and two RBIs to lead the offensive effort.
Jordan Goslee and Darcie Thomas also had two hits each for the Engineers.
Rose-Hulman stands 25-12
on the season and will hold out hope of receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA
Division III Tournament from the national committee on Monday. Mount St.
Joseph improved to 17-22 on the year with the victory and will square off with
Defiance at 2:10 p.m.
