  Rose-Hulman News Jordan Goslee Named HCAC Pitcher of the Year;
Five Engineers Earn First-Team All-League Honors
 

Jordan Goslee - HCAC Pitcher of the Year

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed five players on the all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference team, highlighted by the league's Pitcher of the Year selection.

Sophomore Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.) was named HCAC Pitcher of the Year after dominating league hitters during the conference campaign.

Seniors Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin Co. and Ashley Montgomery (Plainfield) join sophomore Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville, Ky./Eastern), freshman Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) and Goslee on the first-team all-conference squad.

Goslee established single-season school records for earned run average, strikeouts and won-loss percentage.  She finished the season with a 12-2 record, a 1.05 earned run average and 148 strikeouts in 107 innings pitched.

Katie Frey - first-team all-HCAC

In addition, Goslee ranks third on the single-season school record list with 12 victories and held the opposition to a .194 batting average for the season.  Her efforts included the top four single-game strikeout performances in school history, highlighted by a 16-strikeout effort in a victory over Anderson.

During conference play, Goslee compiled an 8-0 record with a 0.65 earned run average and 77 strikeouts in 54 innings of work.

Goslee's efforts helped the right-hander become the first league Pitcher of the Year in the history of Rose-Hulman softball.

Frey batted .344 with 31 hits and nine doubles this season to earn her first career all-conference honor.

Frey caps her career ranked as Rose-Hulman's career record holder for home runs (7) and doubles (29), while ranking in the top five in nine statistical categories.

Ashley Montgomery - first-team all-HCAC

Montgomery, who also earned all-region honors this season, recorded a .377 batting average with 40 hits, 24 runs scored, six doubles, three triples and a team-high .519 slugging average.  She also recorded 11 stolen bases to graduate with a career school record mark of 37.

Other career school records for Montgomery include most hits (149), runs scored (103), triples (6) and total bases (202).

Montgomery completes her career ranked in the statistical top five in 15 Engineer categories.

Brittany Bernthold - first-team all-HCAC

Bernthold led the Engineers with a .414 batting average and 55 hits for the second most hits in a season in school history.  In two seasons, she has slapped 99 hits to rank 10th on the Engineer all-time list.

Her efforts included a team-high 28 runs scored and the center fielder ranked second on the squad with six stolen bases.

Lutz served as a shortstop and designated player for the Engineers during her first season of college softball. 

She batted .358 with 38 hits, two doubles and 16 RBIs as the third hitter in Rose-Hulman's lineup.  Lutz had 10 multiple hit games during her freshman season, including three games with three hits each.

Kyla Lutz - first-team all-HCAC

The five all-conference honorees helped Rose-Hulman achieve a school record with 25 victories this season.  The 25-12 record featured the first regular season conference championship in school history and a school record 10-game winning streak.
