TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Manchester College advanced
to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer
championship game with a shootout victory over Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology on Tuesday.
The teams played to a scoreless tie for 110
minutes, forcing a penalty kick shootout. Manchester won
the shootout by a 3-2 count.
Senior Keegan Gumbs (Owosso, Mich./Owosso)
and freshman Corbin Clow (Martinsville, Ind./ Martinsville)
led the Engineer offensive attack with three shots each.
Clow and senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins,
Colo./Poudre) each had two shots on goal for Rose-Hulman.
In goal, senior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas/Ohio
State Univ.) held Manchester scoreless in 110 minutes of
action and recorded a pair of saves.
In the shootout, Rose-Hulman's goals came from
junior Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) and junior
Brian Fulmer (Stow, Ohio/Stowe-Monroe Falls) while
Manchester got goals from Brian Huss, Chris Rowe, and Tom
Garrett.
With the loss, the Engineers complete the season
with a record of 12-6-2. The senior class of Buck, Gumbs
and Trowbridge have led Rose-Hulman to a mark of 46-28-4 over
the last four years, including a record of 39-14-4 over the last
three seasons.
