TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Fightin' Engineer men's
soccer squad defeated Bluffton 8-1 on Senior Day at Jim Rendel
field on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Rhys Evans (Lake Bluff, Ill.)
got Rose-Hulman on the board first in the 2nd minute, when he
headed in a cross from freshman Nick Race (Martinsville,
Ind.)
Senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo.)
scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season when he successful
on two penalty kicks in the 12th and 15th minutes.
Freshman Joe Salisbury (Fort Wayne, Ind.)
scored his first collegiate goal after finishing on an assist by
senior Keegan Gumbs (Owosso, Mich.) in the 19th minute.
Bluffton cut the Engineer lead to 4-1 on a Jacob
Graham in the 37th minute, before freshman Eric Myers
(Indianapolis, Ind.) gave Rose-Hulman a 5-1 halftime lead
when he scored in the 44th minute on an unassisted goal.
Junior Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich.)
opened the second half with his 4th goal of the season on an
unassisted goal that gave the Engineers a 6-1 advantage.
Evans added his second goal of the game and 7th
of the season in the 50th minute after finishing a cross off the
foot of Trowbridge.
Rose-Hulman's final goal came in the 51st minute
after Miller dribbled to the right side of the box and beat the
goalkeeper to give the Engineers the 8-1 victory.
The three Engineer seniors, Buck, Gumbs, and
Trowbridge combined for a 43-28-3 record in their four years at
Rose-Hulman.
The victory improved the Engineers to 10-6-1 on
the season and 4-1-1 in HCAC competition. The men's squad
will return to action when host Franklin College on Tuesday.
