TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman men's soccer
team won their eight game of the season with a convincing 11-0
win over visiting Finlandia University on Friday afternoon.
Senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins,
Colo./Poudre) scored in the 17th and 40th minutes to break
two Rose-Hulman single season school records by scoring his 16th
goal and tallying 35 points. Trowbridge's first goal came off an
assist by freshman Corbin Clow (Martinsville,
Ind./Martinsville) to give the Engineers an early 1-0 lead.
Clow recorded the next two goals for the
Engineers in the 18th and 29th minutes off assists from senior
Keegan Gumbs (Owosso, Mich./Owosso) and freshman Mitch
Buffington (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) increasing his season
goal total to three.
Buffington gave Rose-Hulman a 4-0 lead in the
31st minute scoring off a rebound when junior Trevor Miller
(Okemos, Mich./Okemos) hit the post on a free kick from just
outside the box.
Freshman Eric Myers (Indianapolis, Ind./Mount
Vernon) scored his first collegiate goal in the 38th minute
on an unassisted goal, pushing the Engineer lead to 5-0.
Freshman Adam Standard (Bloomington,
Ill./University) provided the assist on Trowbridge's record
setting goal in the 40th minute, as sophomore Kyle
Chmielewski (Shawnee, Kan./Mission Northwest) scored just a
minute later on an unassisted goal to give Rose-Hulman a 7-0
halftime lead.
Sophomore Rhys Evans (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake
Forest) found the back of the net in the 55th minute off a
cross from Chmielewski to open the scoring in the second half.
Chmielewski scored his second goal of the game
off a cross from freshman Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles,
Ill./Burlington Central), who recorded his first collegiate
point on the assist.
Evans added another goal, his fifth of the
season, after heading in a cross from a corner kick off the foot
of freshman Brad Holland (Prospect, Ky./North Oldham) in
the 58th minute. Holland would round out the scoring for
the Engineers in the 75th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to
make the final tally 11-0
The win improved Rose-Hulman to 8-5-1 on the
season. The Engineers will return to the pitch on
Sunday, October 7, when they travel to Carlinville, Ill., to
face Blackburn College.
