TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman men's soccer
battled back from from an early 2-0 first half deficit to earn a
2-2 tie in a physically battle with HCAC foe Manchester
Spartans.
Manchester jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in
just under three minutes of play on a goal by Elie Francois.
Francois' goal would be the only score of the first half, giving
Manchester a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes.
The Spartans struck again early in the second
half, scoring in the 47th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
Rose-Hulman got their first goal from freshman
Corbin Clow (Martinsville, Ind.) when he found the back of
the net off a perfect cross from sophomore Rhys Evans (Lake
Bluff, Ill.) in the 63rd minute. The goal was Clow's
first of his college career.
The Engineers' scored the equalizer when senior
Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo.) was successful on a
penalty kick after Clow was fouled inside the box.
Neither team would score in two hard fought
overtime periods, resulting in a 2-2 tie between the two squads.
In goal, senior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas, Ohio
State Univ.) denied the Spartans seven times preserving the
tie.
The Engineers now stand at 6-5-1 on the season
and 2-1-1 in Heartland Conference play. Rose-Hulman
returns to action on Wednesday, October 3rd, when they take on
HCAC opponent Anderson Ravens in Anderson, Ind.
