DEFIANCE, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo./
Poudre) scored with 17 seconds left in overtime to lead the
Engineers past Defiance College 2-1 on Saturday.
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
opener for both teams featured a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes of
action.
Trowbridge scored in the 13th minute to make the
score 1-0 in favor of the Engineers, courtesy of a pass from
freshman Will Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio).
Michael Bell then knotted the score at 1-1 on a score in the
26th minute. The two teams battled into the final minute
of the second overtime, before Trowbridge scored
on a pass from Rhys Evans (Lake Bluff, Ill.) for the game winner.
Senior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas/Ohio State) held Defiance
at a distance with seven saves to move to 5-2 on the year.
The Engineers outshot Defiance 22-12 in the win, including 13-1
during the second 45 minutes of action.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in HCAC play.
The Engineers host the College of Mount St. Joseph on Sunday in
another league matchup.
