GREENVILLE, ILL. -- The Fightin’ Engineers
men’s soccer team shutout Robert Morris–Springfield en route to
a 5-0 victory in the Greenville Invitational on Saturday
morning.
The Engineers out shot their opponents 28-7
in the contest and improved to 2-0 on the season with the victory.
It took less than three minutes for
Rose-Hulman to put their first goal on the board, as freshman Will Terrill
(Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Christian Academy) scored the first goal of his
college career by heading the ball into the top right corner of the goal off the
foot of senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre).
The Engineer’s struck again in the 19th
minute when a hard shot from sophomore Rhys Evans (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake
Forest) deflected off an Eagle defender and into the back of the net.
Freshman Nick Race (Martinsville) picked up the assist on the play that
gave the Engineer’s a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Rose-Hulman wasn’t done scoring, netting the
first of three second half goals in the 57th minute when Trowbridge
finished a pass from freshman Mitch Buffington (O’Fallon, Ill.), bringing
his season goal total to three.
The fourth Engineer score was on an own goal
by a Robert Morris – Springfield defender in the 78th minute, with
freshman Brad Holland (Prospect, Ky./North Oldham) making the score 5-0
under a minute later, scoring for the first time in his short college career on
an assist by fellow freshman Mitchell Ishmael (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut).
Senior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas/Ohio
State) was solid between the pipes, stopping four Robert Morris shots in a
clean sheet performance.
Rose-Hulman travels to Wabash College for an
in-state matchup on Wednesday.
