Rose-Hulman News Three Major Awards Lead Seven All-Conference Honorees

Matt Trowbridge -- 2007 HCAC Co-MVP

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology claimed or shared all three major awards and placed seven players on the all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Team in results released by the league office.

Senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) earned co-Most Valuable Player honors in the HCAC this season, sharing the honor with Matt Vogel of Transylvania.

Corbin Clow (Martinsville) earned the league's Freshman of the Year honor.  Brad Hauter shared league Coach of the Year honors with Brandon Bowman of Transylvania and David Good of Manchester.

In addition to Clow and Trowbridge, three Engineers earned first-team all-league recognition.  Senior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas), junior Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich.) and senior Keegan Gumbs (Owosso, Mich.) each earned the honor.

Second-team award winners from the HCAC included sophomore Nate Becker (St. Charles, Ill.) and junior Brian Fulmer (Stow, Ohio).

Trowbridge ranks 11th nationally in goals and 15th in points per game among all NCAA Division III men's soccer players this season.  His totals of 21 goals and 47 points were double of every player in the HCAC, with one exception, and rewrote the Engineer single-season record book.

Trowbridge's career totals of 45 goals and 110 points rank second in Rose-Hulman history in each category.  His efforts have helped lead the Engineers to a 39-16-4 record since 2005.

Clow ranked fourth on the team in scoring with five goals and 13 points as an energetic addition to the Rose-Hulman offense.  His efforts included a critical first score against Manchester that helped force a tie, resulting in the Engineers earning home field advantage for an HCAC Tournament matchup.

Hauter, who was named HCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year on Tuesday, has a 55-37-5 record in five seasons as Fightin' Engineer head coach.  His efforts included the first, second and third-best win totals in program history, including second-place finishes in the conference in 2006 and 2007.

Buck completed the season with a 12-6-2 record and a 1.42 goals against average as the only goalkeeper selected to the first-team all-league squad.  His efforts included 93 saves and resulted in school records of 35 victories and a 1.15 goals against average in his career.

Miller finished third on the Engineers with six goals and 15 points, with two game winning scores.  The midfielder has scored 15 goals with 10 assists in his Fightin' Engineer career, including six game winning tallies.

Gumbs emerged as the team's top defensive threat throughout this senior season.  His efforts included three assists and helped the Engineers outscore the opposition by a 58-27 count.  Gumbs career includes 60 games with three goals and six assists.

Becker and Fulmer each played critical roles in Rose-Hulman's defensive efforts.  Fulmer started all 20 games, while Becker started 17 of his 19 appearances in defender roles.  The team goals against average finished at 1.37 this season due in large part to their efforts, ranking fourth in school history.

Rose-Hulman completed its third consecutive winning season with its second straight second-place finish in the HCAC standings.
