TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins,
Colo./Poudre) earned first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-American honors, in results released today by the College
Sports Information Directors of America.
Trowbridge becomes the first men's soccer player
in school history to earn first-team Academic All-American
accolades.
He also completes his career as the second
two-time Academic All-American in school history after earning
third-team honors in 2006. Mark Schultz previously earned
second and third-team recognition in 1989 and 1990.
Trowbridge earned the 69th Academic All-America
award in Rose-Hulman history and captured the seventh award for
the Fightin' Engineer soccer program. The Engineers have
achieved five Academic All-American awards in soccer since 2003.
Trowbridge also helps Rose-Hulman continue its
tradition of excellence in the Academic All-America program, as
at least one Fightin' Engineer student-athlete earned the honor
for 22 consecutive years.
This season, Trowbridge earned Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference co-Most Valuable Player honors
after leading the conference with 21 goals and 47 points.
His totals, which included 10 more goals than any player in the
HCAC this season, rank 11th among all NCAA Division III players
this season.
Trowbridge completed his career with 45 goals and
110 points to rank second in Rose-Hulman history in both
categories. His efforts have helped the Engineers achieve
a 39-16-4 record over the past three seasons, including a pair
of second-place finishes in the HCAC.
