Trevor Miller scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win over Hanover with this boot past Michael Hansford.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology advanced to the championship game of the 2006 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament with a 1-0 victory over Hanover College at Rendel Field on Wednesday.

The victory sends the Engineers to Transylvania University for the HCAC title game on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Rose-Hulman sophomore Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich.) provided the margin of victory with the lone score of the game at 15:31 of the first half.  Miller scored from inside the top of the box, courtesy of a crossing pass from senior Chris Banner (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills).

Chris Banner endured numerous hits in a physical contest and recorded the assist on the lone goal.

The Engineers outshot the Panthers 17-7 in the victory, with senior David McIlwaine (Indianapolis/Pike) leading Rose-Hulman with six shots and Miller adding four.  Junior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas/Ohio State) recorded six saves in goal to earn the shutout victory and his school record 12th win of the season.

Rose-Hulman had one other outstanding scoring chance, when Miller was robbed by goalkeeper Michael Hansford at the 48:37 mark in the second half.  Hanover's best opportunity to score was a header by Jeremy Owens that was just high in the final seconds of the match.

Rose-Hulman improved to 15-3-1 on the season and increased its school record for wins with its latest victory.  Hanover completed the season at 8-8-3 overall.  Transylvania enters Saturday's title game with a 13-2-1 record and won the HCAC regular season title at 7-1 in league play.
