TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology moved into first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 2-1 victory over Anderson University on Wednesday at the Engineer Intramural Field.

The Engineers improved to 9-2-1 on the season and 3-1 in HCAC play with the victory.  Rose-Hulman has a three-point lead in the conference standings and holds a virtual half-game lead on Anderson, Defiance and Transylvania, who are each 2-1.

Junior Keegan Gumbs (Owosso, Mich.) put the Engineers on the board at the 20:18 mark on a header in front of the net, courtesy of a pass from senior Chris Banner (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills).  Gumbs scored his first goal of the season with the finish, while Banner recorded his fourth assist.

Sophomore Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich.) scored his third goal of the season in the 86th minute to give Rose-Hulman an insurance goal, on a pass from senior Eric Hoiland (Westminster, Colo./ Northglenn).

Anderson closed within 2-1 at the 87:47 mark on a goal by James Kempson, with an assist credited to Manny Kartzat.  The Engineers outshot Anderson 17-10 overall, with senior David McIlwaine (Indianapolis/Pike) firing a match-high six shots.

A pair of Rose-Hulman goalkeepers combined on the win in net.  Junior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas/Ohio State) recorded a career record two saves in the first 18 minutes, before sophomore Isaac Heyveld (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) earned his first win of the season in goal with three saves.

The Engineers stand 9-2-1 overall and return to action on October 12 at 6 p.m. in a match at Asbury College.
