A Pair of Goals and
Fourth Buck Shutout Lifts Rose-Hulman Over Manchester 2-0 in Men's
Soccer
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer matched the best men's soccer season start in Engineer history with a 2-0 win over Manchester College Saturday afternoon in North Manchester, improving to 8-2-1 on the year. Rose-Hulman was also 8-2-1 on the year eleven games into the season in 2005. Junior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas/Ohio State) recorded a career record nine saves on the day with his fourth shutout of the year and seventh of his career. Senior David McIlwaine (Indianapolis/ Pike) struck first for the Engineers on a pass from senior Eric Hoiland (Westminster, Colo./ Northglenn) 32 minutes into the game for his seventh on the year and 24th of his career. Hoiland leads Rose-Hulman in assists with four on the year. Junior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) added another goal to the Engineer lead 36 minutes into the first half on a pass from senior Chris Banner (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) on the left side of the field for his fourth goal of the year. Rose-Hulman took that score of 2-0 into halftime and that would be all the goals they would need as the Engineers won with a final score or 2-0, thanks to a solid Engineer defense. The Engineers rose to a 8-2-1 season record and 2-1 in the HCAC while Manchester fell to 5-4 on the year with a 1-1 conference mark. The Engineers return to action Wednesday against conference foe Anderson University at 7 p.m. at the Rose-Hulman Intramural Field. |
