Matt Trowbridge had a goal and an assist on the weekend against Earlham and Wittenberg

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman men's soccer dropped a 2-3 loss to Wittenberg on a pair of second half goals, giving the Engineers their first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon at Jim Rendel Field.

The match began very quickly with the first three goals scored within twelve minutes of the start.  Senior Chris Banner (Pittsburgh, Pa./ North Hills) hooked a corner kick in the first five minutes into the goal to put the Engineers on top 1-0.

The Tigers responded quickly with a goal at nine minutes by Joe Zeller on a cross to the center by Matt Borland.  Eleven minutes into the game, senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) took advantage of a mistake by the Tiger goalkeeper and scored on a miskick by the keeper, giving the Engineers a 2-1 lead going into the half.

But within the first fifteen minutes of the second half, Wittenberg scored twice to win the game for the Tigers.  Their first goal was on a penalty kick by Justin Jenkins and second on a header by Ian Acker from Jenkins.

The Tigers and Engineers were closely matched for most of the game, each with six saves, Rose-Hulman edging Wittenberg slightly on shots 14-13.

Rose-Hulman drops to 3-1-1 on the season as Wittenberg rose a 3-2 record.  Rose opens their conference schedule on Saturday in a match against Defiance at 2 p.m. at Jim Rendel Field.
