Another Late Goal Lifts
Rose-Hulman Men Past Earlham
TERRE HAUTE, IND. – For the second consecutive match, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored in the final two minutes to earn a men's soccer victory by topping Earlham College 2-1 on Saturday at Jim Rendel Field. Senior David McIlwaine (Indianapolis/Pike) provided the game winning score with 1:18 left in regulation tie to lead the Engineers past the Quakers. Earlier in the week, sophomore Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich.) scored the game winner with 1:34 left vs. Wabash. Senior Eric Hoiland (Westminster, Colo./ Northglenn) opened the scoring with a goal in the 48th minute to give Rose-Hulman a 1-0 lead. Hoiland scored courtesy of a pass from junior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre). Earlham knotted the score at 1-1 on a goal by Nhlanhla Maduna with 16 minutes left in the second half. The Engineers then began to control action, outshooting the Quakers 6-3 in the half. Junior Trey Buck (Austin, Texas/Ohio State) recorded two saves in net as the Engineers improved to 3-0-1 on the season. Earlham dropped to 2-1. Rose-Hulman returns to action on Sunday against Wittenberg at 2 p.m. |
