Engineers Tie Greenville in
Rose-Hulman Invitational Opener 1-1
TERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team opened the 2006 season with a 1-1 tie against Greenville College Friday afternoon at Jim Rendel Field. After 0-0 tie after halftime, junior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored in the first three minutes of the second half, assisted by senior David McIlwaine (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich.). With five minutes left, the Panthers responded with a goal of their own on a header by Jeremiah Essmeyer assisted by the Greenville goalkeeper, Travis Siebert. Junior goalkeeper Trey Buck (Austin, Tex.) allowed only a single goal in 110 minutes with four saves. On the offensive side, the Engineers out shot the Panthers, 17-8. Rose-Hulman fired eight shots in the first half and three in each of the final three periods. Rose-Hulman stands 0-0-1 on the season with their next game against Blackburn College at 4 p.m. Saturday at Jim Rendel Field. |
