TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
freshman tennis player Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) and senior
football defensive lineman Adam Helmerich (Huntingburg/Southridge)
have been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week
in their respective sports, according to results released today by the conference office.
Danesis was named the Women's Tennis Player of the
Week for the first time this season after her third consecutive
perfect weekend of play. She swept Julie Gehring of Mount St.
Joseph 6-0, 6-0 and topped Jessica Hanson
of Transylvania 6-1, 6-2 in singles play, while teaming up with Katy
Zawadski for 8-1 and 8-2 doubles wins.
With the victories, Danesis improved to 7-0 in
singles play and 7-0 in doubles play, with perfect 6-0 marks against
HCAC competition. The Engineers, who return home Wednesday at 5:30
p.m. vs. Marian, stand 6-1 overall and 5-1 in league play after
finishing 1-8 last spring.

Helmerich was named the Football Defensive Player of
the Week after spearheading an effort that helped result in Rose-Hulman's
first shutout since the 2002 season.
Helmerich returned an interception 39 yards for a
touchdown to give Rose-Hulman a 35-0 lead as part of a 56-0 win over
Concordia Chicago on Saturday. The effort marked one of two
touchdowns scored by the Engineer defense.
He added three tackles and one tackle-for-loss from
the right defensive tackle position in the victory.
The football team improved to 2-1 on the season and
returns to action on Saturday at North Park University.
